Just like the tin miners in Cornwall had their pasties, farm workers in Northern Mexico and Southern California had their Burritos. The name dates back to the late 19th century would take Burritos to work with them and leave in the sun to warm up. Before the Burrito they would have had Tacos but these weren’t as convenient to carry around.
Fast forward to 2017 and the Burrito has been rediscovered. All of the fresh ingredients are still there and chilli sauce is still a very good option, but gone are the animal products. There really is no need anymore to harm animals in order to make the most amazing, healthy Burrito.
You’ll need a block of Seitan to create this or some of our (soon to be released) Seitan Mince. If you have a block simply grate it into a frying pan (no oil) and dry fry for 3-4 mins. Prepare your fresh ingredients be it salad as pictured here but you can also use rice and beans, mixed vegetables or anything you like.
Spread some chilli sauce on the tortilla (or another sauce if you don’t like spice, or have it without sauce), add your ingredients and wrap away. When cooked (or re-heated as it is already cooked) the grated Seitan will become slightly crispy which gives the Burrito real bite.
This is an amazing way to not only enjoy Seitan, but also to get all of the nutritional benefits from it and the fresh, possibly raw, vegetables or salad that you have with it. The options of how you serve it and what you serve it with are almost endless.
